Gabitel has kicked off 2024 by reinforcing its commitment to Renewable Energies and Green Hydrogen through its inclusion in the Green Hydrogen Entities Network Map in Andalusia, prepared by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Regional Government of Andalusia, which identifies around fifty companies already operating in the region’s energy sector, as well as about thirty business associations and clusters, R&D&i centers, research groups, training centers, and economic and social stakeholders who will work synergistically to promote and accelerate the development and use of this technology as a source of decarbonization.
The Green Hydrogen Entities Network Map in Andalusia, created within the framework of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Alliance, serves as a comprehensive tool to showcase the Andalusian green hydrogen sector’s production capabilities, experience, and projection, both for commercial activities and for establishing initiatives that support the growth of enterprises active in the sector.
Its purpose is to highlight Andalusia’s potential and capacities to boost renewable hydrogen, given the region’s favorable conditions for such projects, including abundant renewable resources, a strategic geographic location, port infrastructure, talent and innovation capacity, and industrial demand for its use, among others.
In fact, Andalusia is one of the Spanish regions with the highest number of projects underway, accounting for nearly 27% of the national total, and boasts a significant volume of research and knowledge transfer, as well as large-scale projects such as the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley and the first Green Hydrogen maritime corridor connecting the ports of Algeciras and Rotterdam. Specifically, up to nine green hydrogen initiatives have already been assigned to the Project Acceleration Unit (UAP), representing a total investment exceeding €1.8 billion and the creation of over 6,000 jobs.
The map, established under the 2023 Andalusian Green Hydrogen Alliance—a public-private partnership launched by the Andalusian Government to address the region’s industrial needs and foster the hydrogen economy—groups participating entities into seven activity categories: R&D&i; engineering, product design or concept; components or materials; manufacturing, assembly or installation; distribution and marketing; application, exploitation, or use; and operation & maintenance services and end-of-life equipment management.
Based on its strategic contribution to the value chain, Gabitel is classified among R&D&i, engineering, and product design companies, leveraging over 15 years of experience in renewable energy engineering—particularly in solar PV and wind farms that complement hydrogen—backed by more than 85 renewable projects totaling 3 GWp in the past three years. This expertise is complemented by high-voltage engineering, environmental, and permitting services.
Gabitel’s most notable projects include the execution of a 100 MW+100 MW hydrogen production plant in Cádiz; the preliminary design for a green hydrogen plant, 150 MW wind farm, 550 MW solar PV plant, and H₂ facility in Huelva; the execution of a 300 MW green hydrogen plant and a 300 MW solar PV plant in Huelva province; as well as numerous feasibility studies for various clients.
In its pioneering commitment to this clean and transformative technology, Gabitel also launched in 2021 the Gabitel Chair on Hydrogen as a collaborative instrument with the University of Huelva to coordinate university-led activities and promote the use of green hydrogen.
Since then, the Chair has driven the development of R&D&i, training, and knowledge-transfer activities, aiming to position Huelva and its specialized companies as catalysts for creating a cluster that fosters and promotes green hydrogen projects, with Gabitel assuming the role of guarantor for high-quality and cutting-edge engineering work.
