Gabitel offers lot of knowledge; highly skilled teams and a willingness to grow and push the boundaries. I was motivated by the opportunity to do my part in shaping the future of Gabitel in Germany and especially in the UK, where I live. What I really like as well is that I feel like a person and not just a number within Gabitel \u2013 people care and want you to be successful. And last but not least, the growth opportunities in the markets we address are huge: FTTH is an obvious one, but I believe that Energy, and especially renewable sources for energy, are the markets of the future for us \u2013 all areas I love, as an engineer, and ones we are already situated to deliver on!<\/p>\n<p><em>Desde el principio vi el potencial de Gabitel: expertos no s\u00f3lo en planificaci\u00f3n y dise\u00f1o, sino en campos mucho m\u00e1s amplios de la ingenier\u00eda, como la agricultura, las energ\u00edas renovables e incluso la arquitectura. Gabitel ofrece muchos conocimientos, equipos altamente cualificados y la voluntad de crecer y superar los l\u00edmites. Y por \u00faltimo, pero no por ello menos importante, las oportunidades de crecimiento en los mercados a los que nos dirigimos son enormes: FTTH es obvio, pero creo que la energ\u00eda, y especialmente las fuentes de energ\u00eda renovables, son los mercados del futuro para nosotros<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>As Managing Director of Gabitel Solutions LTD, what are the challenges or objectives you have set for yourself? <em>\/\/ Como Director General de Gabitel Solutions LTD, \u00bfcu\u00e1les son los retos u objetivos que te has marcado<\/em>?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Let\u2019s start with the objectives: short-term, I want Gabitel Solutions LTD to grow and expand its customer base in the UK. We have somewhat of a foothold in the FTTH market but I think there is much more to gain: I want to have consistent and reliable monthly volumes with at least two, ideally three larger clients. So far, we only have CityFibre but are already in detailed talks with VMO2.<\/p>\n<p>In the medium-term, I want us to grow into other industries,\u00a0 for example Energy\/Utilities. For this, I have just submitted an offer for a large tender with Scottish Power and am working on other clients as well, to diversify further.<\/p>\n<p>Long-term though, I want to see us to be the engineering services partner of choice for companies in the UK, operating in this country so smoothly that clients think we are a native UK company.<\/p>\n<p>On the challenges: Firstly, me sitting in the UK and most of the business based in Huelva and Sevilla, brings the challenge of distance; it is difficult to just have a chat in the kitchen or in the hallway. The next challenge is the language \u2013 my Spanish is not yet fluent. I am glad that most colleagues speak English. That said, I believe in order to be successful as an international business, we have to get even better in speaking the languages of the countries we work in.<\/p>\n<p>A big challenge we had, but that we have started overcoming now, is not being perceived as a local business. I believe that the work the team has done to be a local-global business is finally paying off and we are perceived as credible partners within the UK and GER.<\/p>\n<p><em>Empecemos por los objetivos: a corto plazo, quiero que Gabitel Solutions LTD crezca y ampl\u00ede su base de clientes en el Reino Unido. Nos hemos afianzado un poco en el mercado de FTTH, pero creo que hay mucho m\u00e1s que ganar: Quiero tener vol\u00famenes mensuales constantes y fiables con al menos dos, idealmente tres grandes clientes. De momento, s\u00f3lo tenemos a CityFibre, pero ya estamos en conversaciones detalladas con VMO2.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>A medio plazo, quiero que nos introduzcamos en otros sectores, por ejemplo energ\u00eda y servicios p\u00fablicos. Para ello, acabo de presentar una oferta para un gran concurso con Scottish Power y estoy trabajando tambi\u00e9n con otros clientes, para diversificarnos a\u00fan m\u00e1s.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>A largo plazo, sin embargo, quiero que seamos el socio de servicios de ingenier\u00eda preferido por las empresas del Reino Unido, operando en este pa\u00eds con tanta fluidez que los clientes piensen que somos una empresa nativa del Reino Unido.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>En cuanto a los retos: En primer lugar, el hecho de que yo est\u00e9 en el Reino Unido y la mayor parte de la empresa en Huelva y Sevilla plantea el reto de la distancia; es dif\u00edcil charlar en la cocina o en el pasillo. Creo que el trabajo que ha hecho el equipo para ser una empresa local-global est\u00e1 dando por fin sus frutos y se nos percibe como socios cre\u00edbles en el Reino Unido y Alemania.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>As part of the Gabitel team, with which values of the company do you feel more identified? \/\/ <em>Como parte del equipo de Gabitel, \u00bfcon qu\u00e9 valores de la empresa te sientes m\u00e1s identificado?<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I have worked for quite a few different companies across many countries, and none just were like Gabitel. I really like that I feel not only part of a team, but &lt;even&gt; part of a family. I feel at home. I like that I am being respected for who I am and not only for what my CV says and what I have done in the past. Of course, there are always difficulties and tricky situations, but I have to honestly say that I have never worked for a company before where people were in the centre of everything, like in Gabitel.<\/p>\n<p><em>He trabajado para bastantes empresas diferentes en muchos pa\u00edses, y ninguna era como Gabitel. Me gusta mucho sentirme no s\u00f3lo parte de un equipo, sino incluso, parte de una familia. Me siento como en casa. Me gusta que me respeten por lo que soy y no s\u00f3lo por lo que dice mi CV y lo que he hecho en el pasado. Por supuesto, siempre hay dificultades y situaciones delicadas, pero tengo que decir sinceramente que nunca antes hab\u00eda trabajado para una empresa en la que las personas estuvieran en el centro de todo, como en Gabitel.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>To know more about you on a personal level, could you tell us about your hobbies or what you like to do in your free time? \/\/ <em>Para saber m\u00e1s de ti a nivel personal, \u00bfpodr\u00edas hablarnos de tus aficiones o de lo que te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre?<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I have three kids, Avery (12), Isla (10) and Logan (8) and two dogs (Charlie &amp; Luna), so there is not much free time between being the \u201cPapa Taxi\u201d and walking my fur-babies. But if I get time to myself, I really like to play 5-a-side football on a Monday nights, I love reading historic and fantasy novels, I like playing boardgames and (caution: nerd disclaimer!) computer games like Skyrim and Civilization. I am also a bit of a nerd about Dungeons &amp; Dragons and am trying to get my kids into this as well.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tengo tres hijos, Avery (12), Isla (10) y Logan (8) y dos perros (Charlie y Luna), as\u00ed que no tengo mucho tiempo libre entre ser el &#8220;Pap\u00e1 Taxi&#8221; y pasear a mis peludos. Tambi\u00e9n soy un poco friki de Dragones y Mazmorras e intento que mis hijos tambi\u00e9n se aficionen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Our colleague Teresa, who did the interview in the previous newsletter, left this question for you: From an ergonomic point of view, what do you think should be improved in the company? \/\/ <em>Nuestra compa\u00f1era Teresa, que hizo la entrevista en el bolet\u00edn anterior, te dej\u00f3 esta pregunta: Desde el punto de vista ergon\u00f3mico, \u00bfqu\u00e9 crees que se deber\u00eda mejorar en la empresa?<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That\u2019s a tricky one as I am based from home in my little office. One thing I always loved from where I worked before were so-called \u2018stand up huddles\u2019. This means, meetings, regular or irregular, in an area that may not be a meeting room. My rule then was that everybody had to stand up for the duration of the meeting rather than sit down. This kept the legs stretched (my ergonomic point for Teresa &#8211; we sit faaaaaar too much!) and keeps the meeting short and to the point (my point about effective meetings). Try it, it really works!<\/p>\n<p><em>Es una pregunta complicada, ya que trabajo desde casa en mi peque\u00f1a oficina. Una cosa que siempre me ha gustado de donde trabajaba antes eran las llamadas &#8220;reuniones de pie&#8221;.
