The Gabitel Chair on Hydrogen has reinforced its role as a driving force for renewable hydrogen use during the celebration of the 1st National Green Hydrogen Congress, held from February 7 to 9 at the Casa Colón in Huelva, where it actively participated by highlighting its pioneering commitment to this clean and transformative technology, cementing Huelva as the green capital of Southern Europe and a leader in the energy transformation toward a more sustainable world.
During the congress, which the Gabitel Chair sponsored, it played an active role both in the programming and in the exhibition area, where it had its own stand to showcase its work and projects to participants, visitors, and institutional representatives.
In the opening session, the Chair’s president, Paqui Segura Manzano, served as moderator of the first panel, titled ‘Resources for H2V Production’, in which speakers Santiago Gómez Ramos, President of APPA Renovables; Luis Crespo Rodríguez, Energy CEO at Telam; Rodrigo Vela Romera, Sales Director for Southern Europe at GRUNDFOS; and Amós Fuentes Mellinas, Hydrogen Director at Navantia Seanergies, addressed key challenges facing the sector in producing renewable energy for green hydrogen by 2030.
Likewise, the Gabitel Chair had its own stand in the exhibition area, visited by numerous congress attendees as well as industry representatives and various authorities. Notably, the stand was visited by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Junta de Andalucía, Jorge Paradela, who, accompanied by the territorial delegate in Huelva, Lucía Núñez, and the territorial delegate for Employment, Business and Self-Employment in Huelva, Juan Carlos Duarte Cañado, learned about the pioneering commitment made alongside the University of Huelva through the Chair to promote research, training, and knowledge transfer to the business sector, as well as the work and projects we develop in renewable hydrogen.
In fact, Gabitel, backed by over 15 years of experience and 85 renewable projects totaling 3 GWp in the last three years, has been positioned on the Green Hydrogen Entities Network Map in Andalusia, prepared by the Junta de Andalucía. This map identifies nearly one hundred companies, business associations and clusters, R&D&i centers, research groups, training centers, and economic and social agents operating in the region’s energy sector to promote and accelerate green hydrogen development and use as a decarbonization source.
The 1st National Green Hydrogen Congress, which also confirmed that its second edition will be held in Huelva from February 5 to 7, 2025, was a resounding success in organization and participation, with over 900 accredited attendees, more than 300 companies, over 60 speakers, and representatives from twenty national and ten international associations, plus unified national clusters and valleys. This strong support consolidates green hydrogen as an essential energy vector in the energy transition and positions Huelva, with numerous projects underway and others in development, as a global epicenter thanks to its infrastructure, talent, resources, and industrial experience.
