Huelva continues to make strides in the framework of green hydrogen. Following Iberdrola’s recent announcement to locate Spain’s largest hydrogen hub in the province of Huelva, GABITEL, together with the International University of Andalusia, invited major companies to address the replacement of traditional petroleum- and coal-based fuels with hydrogen derived from renewable energies, known as green hydrogen.
The objective of this initiative is to turn Huelva and its specialized companies, such as Gabitel, into a driving force for the creation of a permanent working group—a cluster—that promotes the development of green hydrogen projects, with GABITEL serving as guarantor of high-quality, cutting-edge engineering work.
The mayor of Huelva, Mr. Gabriel Cruz, announced at this event the launch of “the technical office of the green hydrogen cluster, in collaboration with Iberdrola, to drive concrete actions and compete for funds from the PERTE (Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation) of the Government of Spain.”
The National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan 2021–2030 (PNIEC) proposes, among other measures, promoting the study of hydrogen technologies, positioning Spain as a host for national and international hydrogen congresses and sector meetings, and more. These measures align with the objectives of Gabitel, its Chair, and the province’s renewable energy trajectory—an impetus that will make Huelva the most environmentally friendly and sustainable province in Europe, with job growth driven by a green industry in a world-class setting.
